Dear Gen Rigpa and Gen Jampa, and members of the Educational Council,
I have obviously written many times concerning the impure dharma transmissions at what is now KMC San Diego, and surrounding communities. I am still requesting that we can:
Improve the teaching standards in the NKT to assure that we have sincere practitioners who are sincerely with our lineage teaching.
Change the internal rules so that Dorje Shugden is explicitly mentioned as our Dharma Protector, which preferably could not be voted out. I understand he is supposed to be our Protector, but not everyone who comes to our Centers seems to want to keep him, as they may have made up their minds ahead of time to help wipe our practice off the earth. Dorje Shugden protects against politics interfering with the dharma, so could we please vote him officially in as our Wisdom Buddha Dharma Protector? I am requesting that we could put this to a vote, so we could put this in the NKT Internal Rules.
Concerning any arguments that Heart Jewel is our main practice, etc., and therefore it is obvious that Dorje Shugden is our Protector, I will say that quite a few people at my local Sangha seem quite willing to replace all our transmissions with zen and tao, and would have no problem switching Protectors. I believe it would be helpful to all living beings if we could amend the Internal NKT rules so that we specifically mention that Dorje Shugden is the Buddha who is our Dharma Protector
Have people who rely on Dorje Shugden and are well trained in teaching, and actually know the subject matter, as well as have a good heart, teach. I would really prefer that if they are not Shugden practitioners that we not need to listen to them teach from our podiums. We would need to do some sort of training; I am not saying we need to return to the big monastic traditions of Tibet at all; rather, I simply mention that I for example rely on Shugden, but no one has taught me to teach, so I would need, for example to learn how before doing so. Insincere people who follow the Dalai Lama and come to our Centers to remove our practice from the earth obviously would not think there is anything they could reasonably learn from legitimate Shugden Kadampa teachers; we are not even Buddhists according to them, but rather have apparently all turned from following Buddha to following hungry ghosts. Since they think they can’t learn from us, and since they view us as so degenerate, they are ready in their minds to teach immediately. Since we are ‘worshipping ghosts’ then of course even redirecting us to a coffee shop is preferable to helping us do the Shugden practice or having our lineage survive. That these people who want our practice to end are following the commands of another lama, a politician-lama, can be understood if we consider the following:
The person who started pretending that we (Shugden practitioners) are not Buddhists is the Dalai Lama
Not every lama follows the Dalai Lama’s commands concerning upholding the Shugden apartheid (Penor Rinpoche and the 17th Karmapa, both lamas with whom I have had karma this life, neither one uphold the apartheid; I know from writing Karmapa that it is okay if a person who is a regular Shugden practitioners would come to his teachings, for example. Penor Rinpoche allowed Shugden monks to get supplies from his monastery when the Shugden ones were thrown out of their own monasteries. He also asked his followers to not discriminate against Shugden people).
Since not all Buddhist lamas are listening to the Dalai Lama’s nonsense regarding Dorje Shugden, then it follows that people who believe that Dorje Shugden is a bad practice are either following the Dalai Lama or following a lama that follows the Dalai lama.
The Dalai Lama is well known to misuse the tantra, and has declared himself in charge of all of Buddhism, this life, though he is not. Some Gelugpas are deluded into thinking that everyone who is Vajrayana Buddhist must follow the Dalai Lama or they are not really Buddhist. They are also laboring under the delusion that Geshe Kelsang is infamous rather than famous to nearly everyone; they seem to think we would all have heard of Geshe Kelsang in a negative context. This is simply not true.
Since the tantra is misused flagrantly by the Dalai Lama, and since his followers are generally quite confused people, they mistakenly think they can help him and our karma by destroying our practice; lying to us is no problem, as it only’ helps’ the Dalai Lama, for instance, and keeps us from getting more karma with Dorje Shugden. There is a story in one of the Dalai Lama’s books, which I read years ago, which is similar to one in Geshe Kelsang’s book, involving lying with bodhisattva motivation. Basically, it’s that if a hunter asks us which way an animal ran, then it’s okay to lie to him, so that the hunter won’t get bad karma by killing the animal. (The Dalai Lama’s version explains it as it being okay to lie under the circumstance of helping the animal and keeping the hunter from getting bad karma; in Geshe Kelsang’s version it is not really called lying what we tell the hunter, since it is with perfect motivation. In Geshe Kelsang’s version then, we would need a pure motivation, but I am not sure that it is clear that our motive is always pure in the Dalai Lama’s watered down version. I believe the Dalai Lama’s version is from “The Path to Enlightenment” but the last time I read the DL was 13 years ago). Since we are supposedly getting bad karma by doing the Shugden practice, and especially since we have the ‘heinous karma’ of not listening to an edict of ‘Avalokiteshvara’ in the form of the Dalai Lama, then it is seen as helpful to lie to us.
Because we are people who are supposedly getting bad karma, and since his holiness DL says he wants to wipe our practice off the earth, and since lying to us would be seen as helpful by the Dalai Lama’s followers, then it would seem logical that we would protect our lineage by ensuring that Dalai Lama affiliated people aren’t the ones teaching us; after all, if they are really devoted to him then it doesn’t seem likely that they would be trying to help us perpetuate our dharmas, but rather that they might be planning to move people away from our main practice, that of Dorje Shugden. Since we are in the category of getting bad karma by every action that we do as a Shugden practioner, then really these misguided beings are interfering with our dharma. This isn’t good for any sentient beings, as it keeps us from receiving the transmissions which would turn us into Buddhas who could emanate to help others. So, this is really unhelpful what these people are doing, and we don’t want them having difficulties when they try to get authentic transmissions someday, then we really need to stop them from perpetuating this obstacle making.
Please consider what I am asking and please understand that I understand very well that these people intend to split my local Sangha; I would imagine there will be several California centers that try to split off, since a lot of these people are not convincing regarding their Shugden affiliation. I would prefer to avoid the drama and nonsense that they are planning, for all living beings. I think that it would be confusing for newer people, for children, etc.
I would ask that we could review our current teaching staffs at various KMCs and KBCs to ensure that we have people that are honestly intending to stay with us in current teaching and admin positions.
Thank you for your time.
